Sometimes the students get really creative on their tests...

Student's written answer: I know, but I'm not going to tell you.

Students are supposed to go out to the playground in the morning before the bell rings. Many don't like this. I found my tiny, naughty student from last year moving in painfully slow steps toward the door.

Mrs. B: Joey, what are you doing?

Joey: I'm...in...slow...motion...

Clayton: (pointing to another student) Alfred's head!

Mrs. B: (waiting for the children to get to their seats) Okay, guys, can you please get to your seats before I grow old standing here?!

Aimee: Aren't you already old?

I like to use little Spanish phrases in class. The Spanish-speaking students find this quite amusing since my pronunciation is pretty terrible...

Mrs. B: (raising my voice) I SAID SILENCIO, POR FAVOR!

Juan: Hey! You got it right that time!

We have been working on keeping our hands to ourselves while in line...

Layla: (pushing the student in front of her) GO, Jax!

Jax: Don't touch me! I'm precious!

The students know that when I ask a student to step outside with me, it usually means they are in trouble for some reason. I do this so they aren't embarrassed in front of the class. Today, it didn't help...

Mrs. B: Jax, I need to see you outside for a moment, please.

Teeny: Uh-oh! Dah, dah, dahhhhhhhhn!

I was in the grocery store this weekend when I saw one of my students hiding behind his dad's grocery cart. He was holding very still and looking at me through the basket...

Mrs. B: (walking by, looking over the edge of my sunglasses) I can still see you, Reed!

Reed: Shoot!

Aspen: Aw, shoot! I broke my pencil again!

Cassidy: Don't worry about it. Things happen.

I gave the children some little chocolates that looked like bird's eggs...

Reed: (melodramatically) I'm eating baby birds but they taste like chocolate! Wahhhh!!

Our class was walking to the library and a fourth-grade student decided to stroll along with us. Suddenly, one of my third-graders broke into song...

Jax: (pressing himself up against the wall and singing) Spiderman! Spiderman! Does whatever a spider can!

Fourth-grader: (quietly, just to me) I used to be like that when I was a kid.

So, apparently, I'm a dinosaur now.

Joey: I went to bed on time but my little sister was sick and she cried all night.

Joey: It's pretty bad. She has lamonia!

A student has been chattering for about ten minutes straight about random, weird things...

Mrs. B: Reed! What is with you today?

Cassidy: (sitting next to Reed) I don't know, but I think he lost his brain!

Reed: (apropos of nothing) If I had to be eaten by a zombie, I'd want it to be an Abe Lincoln zombie.

Mrs. B: I need everyone to stop what they are doing and help pick up the trash. (Sees a student standing perfectly still.) Jax! Will you please help pick up trash?

Jax: (staying frozen and barely moving his mouth) I can't. I'm a statue.

A student calls out the name of his friend who is standing in a herd of other students...

Clayton: Jax!

Jax: (looks around frantically for the person who called his name)

Clayton: Man! He looks like a confused penguin!

We went on a class picnic with our kindergarten reading buddies today. The walk to the park is about the length of two football fields...

Kindie-boy: Mrs. B? Why are we walking?

Mrs. B: Because we're just going to the park right over there.

Kindie-boy: This is unbewievable! Why can't we take the bus?

Sometimes students make the most random statements. Of course, the follow-up comments are what make it fun!

Teeny: (in the middle of silent work time) I was born in Arizona!

Clayton: (without looking up) Congratulations.

Cassidy: (also without looking up) Good for you!

Another "what I learned today" moment...

Mrs. B: Okay, tell me what you learned today!

Reed: (after having gotten in trouble quite a bit) I learned that YOU are a VILLAIN!
