While watching a "show" about building character...

Actor to audience:  (trying to get the kids excited for the performance)  Are you happy to be here today?

One of my students:  I'm happy to be out of class!

Mrs. K was watching the students for me while I stepped out of the room...

Elmer:  Mrs. K, you can feel free to take points if you'd like.

A student had what we like to call an "a-ha" moment...

Dakota:  So, basically, multiplication and division are like plus and minus...only harder and fancier!

Dakota:  (running up to me with a look of importance about her)  Mrs. B!  I have TWO THINGS to tell you!

Mrs. B:  Go ahead.

Dakota:  Okay....um...well, I forgot the first thing.

Mrs. B:  Well, then, tell me the second thing.

Dakota:  Okay.  Ummmmmmmm...shoot!  I forgot the second thing, too!

Mrs. B:  That's okay.  It happens to me all the time.

Dakota:  Yeah, but you're kinda old.  I should be able to remember things at least 'till I'm twenty!

Wyeth:  (watching a fish "clean" another fish)  Ha!  He's like, "Clean my armpits!"

We were watching a movie about the oceans of the world.  Being a nature film, it had some "circle of life" moments in it.  Third-graders handle this better than one might think...

Brandon:  (watching as a small fish is about to be eaten)  WATCH OUT!  IT'S AN AMBUSH!

I have a student, Elmer, who has the worst case of ADHD I've ever encountered.  On his meds, he is barely manageable.  He came in without them one day...

Emmett:  (stage-whispering to me after a round of craziness occurred)  Elmer is a little too EXPRESSIVE for me!
